What a great day on the Tour d Kent 27th March . A big thanks to everyone who turned up at the various points, made their donations to the cause, and generally contributed to a fantastic day. Oh and we collected £85 from you the riders, which along with the £60 from the Pie n Mash run was a good result for the charity.
The day started at 9am at the OASIS cafe in Old Romney - with a dozen or so scooters - weather was overcast and a bit damp. As we rode across to Folkestone, the sun came out and so did the people and their scooters. We were greated by another bunch waiting for us at Folkestone Harbour, then De Bradley Wharf in Dover, about 30 scooters at this point. Up the Jubilee way, we made our way into Deal, where at the 'Cafe on the Green' another 30 or so scooters were already waiting for us (from various clubs). We left Deal in a blue haze, and off via Sandwich by-pass to Margate. We all pulled up at The Emporium where we were treated to Tea's, coffee's and sausage rolls - thanks guys for that, much appreciated. Off again to Canterbury, hampered by road closures and alternative routing required, we managed to split but luckily all met up again by Faversham. In Gillingham we again had a massed turnout and off we went to Newnham Court in Maidstone. Things didn't exactly go to plan - due to this being the first real massed ride of the year in good weather, so the timings went to pot as everyone socialised in the sun, but we managed to do what we wanted and that was to prove the concept for 180-200 mls. We apologise for not making Hastings, instead back to Ashford and Deal, but we all had to get home for Monday morning!
